Why a CLIMATE Compass?
Many local authorities have recognised the need to become active in climate change policies, have decided to adhere to the Climate Alliance, and have therefore committed themselves to targets for their future climate policy.
The main goal of CLIMATE COMPASS is to offer a methodology for local authorities to work out an immediate climate policy action programme in a very short time. These ad-hoc programmes build on existing experience and activities, and shall be embedded in a comprehensive climate policy strategy addressing the energy and transport sectors, and other areas relevant for greenhouse gas reduction policies.
The project develops this methodology and introduces its broader application through the training of promoters who will use the CLIMATE COMPASS method to work with local authorities. It builds on the large experience and already established tools and methods by the Climate Alliance, other networks and experts.
The methodology will be suited to offer a comprehensive and strategic framework to tackle the relevant sectors in local climate change policy, and to initiate and guide a process of developing and implementing climate change related policies and measures.
